Holiday season is also shopping season, and while some stores were open on Thanksgiving Day, and before dawn of on Black Friday, small businesses are getting ready for Small Business Saturday!

shop smallSmall Business Saturday encourages shoppers to spend some of their holiday dollars in small businesses that can’t compete with the “Big Box” doorbuster sales.  Shopping at a small business has a great impact on our economy and our local community (check out this article from USA Today for 10 benefits of shopping small).

Carytown, home to almost 300 shops, restaurants and businesses, most of which are locally owned, is ready for a great Small Business Saturday.   Free carriage rides down Cary Street will be available and elves will be spreading holiday cheer with random acts of kindness, giving out gift cards to random small business shoppers.

At noon, Santa will be arriving by horse drawn carriage accompanied by the Snow Queen, The Greater Richmond Pipe and Drums and Marines. Santa will be at W. Hirsch Rugs every Saturday from 12p-3p (11/29, 12/6, 12/13, and 12/20) to take wishlists, and pictures.
