Saturday, May 16, 2015 marks the 1st Annual ‘Kolor Me Katie’ 5k which will be raising funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
Goochland High School seniors and friends of Katie Anderson have partnered with the Goochland Family YMCA to host this event inspired by the memory of their friend and former classmate.
The event is set to start at 9:00am with the 5k race beginning at 10:00am. All ages welcome and there are even two “kiddie Kolor runs” prior to the 5k race, for younger participants to promote a healthy lifestyle in adolescents.
Following the race there will be live music, local food vendors, fun kid activities, and an announcement revealing the total amount raised for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) from this event.
The premise of a color run is to cover runners with a nondamaging color powder. It makes for a fun and festive race, while raising money for a great cause. The event has been organized by four high school seniors at Goochland High School in partnership with the Goochland YMCA.
Katie Anderson, a former Goochland student, is the inspiration for this race. After passing away from Leukemia in March 2014, many students at GHS wanted to do something to raise awareness and funds for the LLS foundation. Four of Katie’s best friends came together not only to honor Katie’s life, but to show support for many who are affected by Leukemia and Lymphoma every day.
In addition to raising funds for LLS, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Goochland Leaders Club. Katie was a dedicated member of this program which is managed through the Goochland YMCA.
