Summer is such a fun time to do activities with your family that you don’t get a chance to do during the school year. One of our favorite things is going to the movies! We’ve put together a list of this summer’s must-see family friendly movies that are sure to entertain kids and parents alike!
Finding Dory
Release Date: June 17
Description: This movie follows the adorably forgetful blue tang fish Dory from Finding Nemo on her own journey to find her long lost parents.
Rating: PG (for mild thematic elements)
What better way to kick off the season with what might be the most highly anticipated of this summer’s must-see family friendly movies! Finding Nemo was an instant family favorite, so chances are you’ve probably been holding out for a sequel and now it’s finally here! Between the animation, familiar characters and hilarious dialog, this is sure to be a summer favorite for your family!
The BFG
Release Date: July 1
Description: Based on the book by Roald Dahl, the BFG tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a young girl and a big friendly giant.
Rating: PG (for action/peril, some scary moments and brief rude humor)
If your kids have ever read this book, chances are they’re probably already begging you to see it! If they haven’t read it yet, put it on your summer reading list and then see the movie as a reward!
The Secret Life of Pets
Release Date: July 8
Description: This animated film gives a behind the scenes peek at what your pets do when you’re not home!
Rating: PG (for action and some rude humor)
This is an awesome pick, especially for families with pets! In the movie, the family brings home a new dog and their existing dog has to learn to adjust to the newest member. This aspect makes it a great movie for families with who are expecting a second child!
Ice Age 5: Collision Course
Release Date: July 22
Description: On his never ending quest to find an acorn, Scrat accidently sets an unfortunate series of events in motion and the crew has to work together to save their home!
Rating: PG
There is a reason they’ve made five of these! You can expect to find the same classic humor you’ve come to love from the The Ice Age movies as well valuable lessons like teamwork, friendship and courage!
Nine Lives
Release Date: Aug. 5
Description: A workaholic who doesn’t spend enough time with his family finds himself trapped inside the body of a cat he buys for his daughters birthday.
Rating: PG (for thematic elements, language and some rude humor)
Between the hilarious hijinks and family dynamic this is sure to entertain your whole gang! While the trailer looks hysterical, there also appears to be an importance placed on prioritizing family and building relationships.
Pete’s Dragon
Release Date: Aug. 12
Description: A young girl, skeptical of the mystical dragon tails she’s heard sets out on the adventure of a lifetime and meets an orphaned boy named Pete and his dragon.
Rating: PG (for actions, peril and brief language)
This highly anticipated reimagining of the 1977 Disney classic will be a surefire homerun with the family this summer.
