The Women's Hospital Opens
HCA Virginia’s Henrico Doctors’ Hospital has announced the opening of The Women’s Hospital, a state-of-the-art women’s health facility in Richmond’s West End.

The facility, which is attached to Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, includes a newly added 12,000 square foot triage area and lobby with direct access for patients, 16 labor and delivery rooms, a completely renovated 29-room mother-baby unit and a 27-room antepartum unit. The $40-million-dollar project features all private, spacious rooms and the latest technology, including an advanced communications system for patients, providers and staff.

“Henrico Doctors’ has been recognized as a leader in women’s healthcare for more than 40 years,” said Will Wagnon CEO of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital. “This new facility is more than just brick-and-mortar but represents an evolution of our services and change to our care model, all focused on optimizing the number of choices for women in our community.”

According to Wagnon, the space was designed to meet the unique health care needs of women in the Richmond region, providing a full continuum of care and services to women and their families in one convenient location.

“The facility was designed and created to accommodate a variety of care options that women are seeking, from high-risk patients under perinatal specialty care who need continuous monitoring and immediate access to a multi-disciplinary medical team, to a patient that wants low-intervention care during their stay,” said Amber Price, vice-president, Women’s Services for Henrico Doctors’ Hospital.

The Women’s Hospital will house a variety of women’s services units including six gynecologic operating rooms with a da Vinci Robotic System, labor and delivery unit, postpartum mother-baby unit, antepartum/gyn specialty unit, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), education room, and a brand new triage lobby with direct access for the patients.

The labor and delivery and mother-baby units were designed to optimize evidence-based care with the newest equipment on the market including the NOVII which no longer require belts for monitoring mother and baby, a centralized nurses station, and space for outpatient services. King-sized beds are also available in many rooms to promote a family-centered recovery. The updated traffic flow of the labor and delivery, NICU and mother-baby units was designed specifically with infant security in mind and will be supervised 24-hours-a-day.

The physical environment will offer an optimum setting for patients and healthcare providers. Specialty lighting was installed to allow physicians to provide all infant care at the patient’s bedside along with their family, and Mandarin soaking tubs for hydrotherapy are available for patients, as well as water-submersible fetal monitoring systems.

The antepartum and gynecologic specialty care units are designed for the comfort of patients that have to stay for an extended amount of time. Spacious new rooms provide a pleasant experience for patients and their visitors, and there is a new community room that allows for social interaction with other patients.

“Henrico Doctors’ Hospital has a great reputation for women’s care in our community, and The Women’s Hospital will allow us to provide quality services and the latest technology to even more women and their families,” said Price.

The final phase of the renovation will be a 40 private room NICU with 21,000 square feet of renovations and new construction. Henrico Doctors’ Hospital will feature the largest community-based Level III NICU in Central Virginia and the only NICU with 24/7 neonatologists on-site.

Henrico Doctors’ Hospital delivers more babies than any other hospital in Central Virginia, with more than 3,800 babies expected to be delivered in 2016. For more information on Henrico Doctors’ Hospital’s women’s and children’s services, visit henricodoctors.com.
