Registration for Give A Day RVA, our region’s largest day of service, is now open!
On Saturday, September 23rd, over 1,300 volunteers will give back at more than 55 different projects across the Richmond region. A wide range of service projects are open to members of the community to better the region by helping local nonprofit organizations, schools, and parks. In addition to projects hosted by local nonprofits and community organizations, for the first time ever projects will be hosted by each of the following localities: The City of Richmond and the Counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and Powhatan.
With over 55 different projects in the Richmond region, there are plenty of ways that you and your family can help. Give A Day RVA opportunities include family-friendly options, and youth of all ages are encouraged to be part of the action! Youth-friendly opportunities include the Swansboro Elementary School Beautification and Maintenance with Greater Richmond Fit4Kids and Fall Farm Help with Shalom Farms.
In addition to the in-person volunteer opportunities, there are also DIY (do-it-yourself) opportunities that can be completed and delivered prior to September 23rd and “drop in” projects that allow a shorter time commitment. DIY projects are great for the whole family and offer a flexible way to engage in volunteer service. DIY Projects include Happy Wheels Activity Packs for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
A 2016 volunteer reported that she enjoyed “being able to share with my daughter the importance of giving back to the community. We loved the feeling of doing something good!” A past DIY participant shared, “our family loved the DIY project which allowed us to do good work to contribute to our community during times that worked with our hectic schedules.” Give A Day RVA will give you and your family the opportunity to participate in this community-wide effort.
After your project, volunteers are invited to join HandsOn at the RVA Street Art Festival. The Street Art Festival occurs throughout the weekend of September 22-24th and HandsOn will be on site September 23rd with a free treat for volunteers and fun activities. Attendees will have the opportunity to watch national and local artists in action and to enjoy food, music, craft vendors, and more.
