Cars are a big investment. For some of us, we try to hold on to them until we run them into the ground. At the end, we really don’t have too many options. The car probably has a lot of wear and tear over the years. It would be very difficult to sell it to anyone and get any money out of it. Carrie Hollenbeck was in that same situation. She needed to sell “Greenie”, a 1996 Honda Accord that had more than 140,000 miles on it. She believed she would have a difficult time selling it. Her fiancé, Max Lanman, decided to help her out and created a funny ad to include with her car’s eBay listing.
The video mimics a fancy European car commercial with the voice over and the aerial shots. The content of the video is just hilarious! A woman (not Carrie Hollenbeck) pins her hair up after checking herself out in a mirror that is mounted inside the trunk. She has a coffee maker in the passenger held in place by the seatbelt. Meanwhile, you hear:”You don’t need things. You’re happy with who you are. You don’t care about money. You have everything you ever wanted.”
The video concludes with the phrase, “luxury is a state of mind”. The ad did so well on eBay that it reached $150,000. However, eBay took it down due to unusual bidding activity. In the end, Carmax responded to the funny ad by buying it for $20,000!
