Thanksgiving is almost here and many of us have already started stocking the pantry in preparation for the big day. Traditional Thanksgiving meals consist of classics like turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, breads and rolls, and of course, a dessert table piled high with enough sweet treats to feed an army. This is a menu that most of us know and love – and especially at this time of year, finding ingredients for all of our favorite dishes is a snap. Simply head to any local market or grocery store and you’ll find displays filled with everything you need to make your Thanksgiving feast. And that’s all fine and good…unless you have guests with food allergies and/or gluten-free or vegan dietary requirements. Suddenly, the menu becomes a bit more challenging.
If you deal with food allergies or sensitivities on a regular basis, chances are you’ve got a system in place. You most likely already know how to swap out certain ingredients to make dishes suitable for everyone at the table. But if your day-to-day cooking doesn’t include gluten-free, allergy sensitive, or vegetarian/vegan options, then you might find yourself facing a bit of a dilemma. Sure, it’s easy enough to find recipes and ingredients online and in stores that allow you to make dishes to meet any special dietary requirements, but trying out new recipes and working with new ingredients in the midst of the holiday madness may not be the best idea.
Fortunately, Richmond offers a number of local shops and bakeries that offer ready-made breads, cakes, and pies that are gluten-free, with vegan options to boot. We took a look at some of these spots and have picked five of our favorites. In order to make our list, we looked for shops that offered the following:
- A variety of options
- An understanding of the importance of keeping ingredients separate during prep
- A reputation for great flavors and quality products
The following five spots will not only serve up delicious additions to your Thanksgiving meal, but they’ll offer peace of mind as you come to the table on Thanksgiving day knowing that all of your guests will have options that are delicious – and right for their dietary needs.
Take a look at these awesome options and enjoy great flavors, not just at Thanksgiving, but throughout the year!
As always, if there’s an option for gluten-free and/or vegan goods that you’d like us to know about, be sure to contact us at cs@richmondmom.com.
In the meantime, have a wonderful Thanksgiving – from our Richmond Mom family to yours!
