This summer, inclusion is coming to Greater Richmond area as Special Olympics Virginia holds its annual marque event, Summer Games. At Summer Games, June 7-8 in Richmond, 1500 champions will go for gold in swimming, softball, track & field, bowling and tennis. Plus, we’ll light the Olympic Cauldron, welcome hundreds of new volunteers to our family, and put our hands together for American Idol finalist “Shayy” at the Opening Ceremony, June 7 at University of Richmond’s Robins Center. Come cheer your heart out for Special Olympics, plus take your support to the next level by making a splash at our Solar Plunge June 8!
Join us June 7 – 8 throughout the Richmond Area. Whether you RUN, PLUNGE or VOLUNTEER, Summer Games is your chance to make a splash and support the more than 1,500 athletes competing.
1. Join us for our 2nd annual Solar PLUNGE!
This year, you can cheer on athletes as they compete for GOLD and then join them as you go for COLD during Closing Ceremony celebrations! It’s $100 to Plunge, and it all goes to the coolest cause around. Start a team today at polarplunge.org/richmond!
2. Join 100+ law enforcement officers as an honorary guardian of the flame.

3. Volunteer to Cheer for 1500+ athletes and help us celebrate 50 inspiring years at our Opening Ceremony, complete with birthday treats, fireworks and Richmond’s top talent.

Every part of Summer Games is family friendly. Come out to Opening Ceremony at 7:30pm Friday, enjoy the competition and Solar Plunge Saturday, or spend the entire weekend with us! Saturday’s activities at St. Christopher School also include free ice cream sandwiches for fans thanks to Southland Dairy, free popcorn and snow cones from Enterprise, Olympic Town crafts, a gaming trailer, Mad Science, face painting and more!
Summer Games, presented by Hardee’s, Sheetz, the University of Richmond, NBC Channel 12, Virginia Knights of Columbus, the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Virginia, K95, 103.7 Play, 96.5 Classic Rock, Star 100.9 and Hot 106.1, is the largest state-level competitions offered by Special Olympics Virginia.
