Hilarious ‘Dad Bod’ Commercial is the Perfect Father’s Day Salute

WARNING: This video is a little racier than most of our Share Saturdays videos, but we know that dads love a good joke and what better way to pay them homage than with the Dollar Shave Clubs latest commercial saluting the dad bod?!

The Dollar Shave Club, an online service that delivers razors and other grooming supplies to your door, recently released their Dad Bod commercial as a way of paying tribute to dads of all shapes and sizes. The ‘dad bod,’ in case you didn’t know, refers to men’s physique as they have get a little older, have a few kids, and don’t have time to go to the gym as they used to thanks to jobs that keep them busy supporting their families. Needless to say, some dads don’t necessarily sport the lean lines they once had.

For women, there’s been talk for a long time about how media unrealistic portrayals of women’s bodies can have a negative impact on self-esteem and the sense of what’s  “normal.” And thankfully, there’s also been a push in recent years to stop “body shaming” women for not fitting a prescribed mold. But, let’s be honest, it’s not often we turn that attention to men.

This hilarious tribute to the dad bod begins with a shot of the word “Manifique,” an adjective “used to define the magnificence of otherwise overlooked male body types, often the bodies of Dads.” Today reports that Dollar Shave Club created the commercial as a way of celebrating body positivity for men and reinforcing their goal of making men of all shapes and sizes look and feel their best.

The fact is, men can easily feel just as self-conscious as women when it comes to their appearance. As a collective, women have worked hard to celebrate the changes their bodies go through in the interest of childbirth and raising families. This video seems like the perfect way to give dads a shout out for all that they do and let them know that it doesn’t matter what they look like, they’re perfect to us.

So, as we get ready to celebrate Father’s Day tomorrow, June 16, we want to let you dads know that you’ve worked hard for that dad bod and we love you for it. The time and energy you give to your family is what truly matters and we celebrate you today and every day, because your “physique is unique” and you’ll always be handsome in our eyes, not for how you look, but for who you are.

Happy Father’s Day, dads!
