Supper Made Simple is a home delivery meal provider that focuses on fresh, “home” cooked meals and personal service. While they don’t offer a broad daily menu, they do offer a wide variety of comfort foods, lighter meals, and daily substitution meals should their current offering not be to your taste or dietary needs.

How it works: Sign up by email or by calling (804) 740-5200 and fresh meals with heating instructions will be delivered on your desired days between 1pm and 6pm. If you’re not home for delivery, simply leave a cooler and ice pack outside. For long-term customers, Supper Made Simple provides a reusable insulated bag and ice-pack. Pricing: Supper Made Simple provides a daily menu selection with two convenient pricing plans. You can choose from the $10.95/day plan for one with meal delivery 2-5 days a week. Or you can choose the family plan at $27.85/day. The family plan is also delivered 2-5 days a week and feeds up to four people. Best of all, there are no long term commitments, no delivery or tipping fees, and scheduling is flexible.

Delivery areas: Supper Made Simple currently delivers to the West End of Richmond, the East of the Museum District, parts of the East-end and South-side into Midlothian, Bon Air, and Northern Chesterfield. If healthy foods is your number one priority, then Daily Jars might just be the meal delivery service for you. Daily Jars provides ready-to-eat meals that thoughtfully sources including s including both local and organic produce, making it easy to eat healthy even on the busiest days of the week. Their menu includes a wide variety of options available in single, a la carte portions, allowing you to choose a different meal for different family members or the same item for everyone. This flexible feature makes it especially helpful for families with special dietary needs as their weekly menu always includes options that are free from refined sugars, as well as gluten-free, dairy-free, soy-free, and nut-free options.

How it works: Simply go online, select your meals for the week (as many or as few as you’d like) by midnight on Wednesday. And don’t worry, they’ll stay fresh for up to five days! There is no subscription or sign-up needed. Your meals will be delivered fresh the following Monday during one of two delivery times: 9:30am – 2:30pm or 6pm – 9:30pm. If you’re not going to be home for delivery, all you have to do is leave out a cooler with ice packs. Delivery fees range from $4.95 to $9.95 based on distance, but all orders of $60 or more qualify for free delivery. If you would prefer to pick your order up, you can stop by Good Foods Grocery at Stony Point Shopping Center on Mondays during store hours, 8am – 9pm.

Pricing: Because all of Daily Jars’ meals are a la carte, you’ll never have to worry about being locked into a subscription or ongoing payment plan. Most meals are priced between $10 – $13, with smaller sides and soups coming in around $5 – $6.

Special dietary needs: Each week starting on Tuesday, Daily Jars provides a new menu that includes options free from refined sugars, dairy, soy, peanuts, and gluten. For those interested in clean eating and whole foods, Human Food RVA prides themselves on providing healthy whole foods with minimal processed ingredients and preservatives.  Their meals are gluten-free, dairy-free and processed/refined sugar-free; but what really sets them apart is how easy they make it to plan for a special diets or other dietary needs. Their options include paleo, vegetarian, and vegan selections, but you can also customize your meals with their new a la carte meal prep function which allows you to choose menus based on special eating plans like Whole 30, or including specific allergies, etc.

How it works: No subscriptions or long-term commitments are needed to enjoy Human Food RVA’s delicious meals. Simply go online, sign up, then select the meals you would like for the coming week (all meals are available a la carte). Order your meals by 2pm on Friday and they will be available for pick-up a several Richmond area locations on Sunday or Monday. New menus are available every Monday. They do offer some delivery options, but primarily rely on pick-up. Be sure to check out their pick-up locations page for more information, times, and addresses.

Pricing: Most meals range in price from $9.50-$10 with no minimum, allowing you to get exactly what you want in the exact quantities you need. Their a la carte system also makes it possible for you to order just your own lunches for the week, or dinner meals for the whole family custom suited to individual palates. Plus, right now you can get 10% off your first order and 10% off orders of $100 or more.

This ready-to-eat meal company comes from the owners of Tazza Kitchen, a long time Richmond favorite. Building on their reputation for quality, seasonal, and sustainably-sourced food, they offer a wide selection of made-from-scratch favorites perfect for  carnivores, omnivores, vegetarians, and gluten-freers alike. All of their meals are made fresh and packaged in compostable containers for easy refrigeration and reheating, allowing you to have responsible “home” cooked meals at your convenience, without the hassle of cooking. With ordering available anytime and pick-up available in as few as 30 minutes, they offer incredible convenience, even if you find yourself scrambling for a healthy dinner at the last minute. If it’s been a particularly long day, you can even add beer and wine to your order. They don’t offer delivery like our other services, but with two convenient pick-up locations, there was no way we were leaving them off the list!

How it works: No commitment or subscriptions are needed. Simply check out their menu, place your order online or by phone and pick it up at one of two locations, Short Pump or Scott’s Addition, within about 30 minutes of placing your order. Start your order here.
Pricing: Meals are around $5 for sides, around $8 for wood-fired pizzas, and around $13 and up for mains. But with most mains designed to feed two people, it’s easy to have an affordable fresh meal on the table in almost no time.

Special dietary needs: The Big Kitchen offers vegetarian (veg), vegan (v), and gluten free (gf). Likewise their online menu lists the main ingredients of each dish and notes common allergens. However, they are not a dedicated allergen-free facility and cannot accommodate special requests at this time. Be sure to contact them if you have any questions or concerns about a menu item.

Personal Chef To Go is the only service on our list that delivers nationwide. But thanks to their homebase in Mechanicsville, they serve as a local provider for the Greater Richmond area. Headed by a team of world-renowned chefs, Personal Chef To Go really is like having a personal chef thanks to their wide menu selection and incredible flavors. You can get your fresh, ready-made meals weekly in five, eight, or 10 meal packages starting as low as $78. Made with locally sourced vegetables, FDA approved meats, and whole grains, meals are delivered fresh in special reduced oxygen containers that not only allow for easy reheating, but that will stay fresh in your fridge for 10-12 days, allowing you to plan ahead, even into the next week.

How it works: To get started button, select the number of meals you would like delivered weekly, then make your menu selections by Monday at 11:45am. If you should forget to make your selection at the time, the chef’s will send you an order based on your selected preferences, so you don’t have to worry about missing a week. However, you can also easily cancel or pause any time before the deadline, as well. Shipping is free (on the East Coast) and are shipped on Thursday for Friday or Saturday delivery depending on your location.
Pricing: Five Meals: $78/week; Eight Meals: $118/week; 10 Meals: $138/week.
Delivery areas: Nationwide, including the entire state of Virginia
Special dietary needs: Personal Chef To Go does not offer the same dietary concessions as some other services as most of their meals include seafood or a meat protein, however, with the exception of a few items that have pasta, all of their meals are gluten free.
