And while our kids are getting excited about a week off from school, us parents are beginning to wonder exactly how we’ll fill all of those free hours. Fortunately, there a number of Richmond spring break camps that will be offering both full- and half-day options to keep our kids active, entertained, and learning the whole week long.

However, with most Richmond area school taking April 6-10 off this year, Richmond spring break camps are already starting to fill up. That means, of course, that if you want to find camps for your family, then now is the time to start looking!

Many of our favorite local sports, theater, music, art, and academic organizations are hosting special spring break camps that will offer your kids a chance to explore new skills, improve old ones, and have fun all week long. Art Factory Play Cafe and Party Place Spring Break Workshops

April 6-10, 2020

Spend Spring Break at the Art Factory! They will be offering week filled with crafts and canvas painting perfect for kids 6-14 years old.

Each day will have different projects, ranging from String Art and Slime to Canvas Painting. Each day your child will comes home with multiple projects. There will be time for a snack break. All campers are required to bring their own nut-free, labeled snack in addition to packing a lunch (full day only) as well as a water bottle. Refrigerator access is available.

ArtVenture Spring Break Camp

April 6-10, 2020

At the Visual Arts Center of Richmond, kids make real art with the help of some of Richmond’s most prominent professional artists. Spring Break ArtVenture is a one-week art camp timed to coincide with the spring break holiday in area public schools.

Sign up for a week of both morning and afternoon classes and your child can bring a lunch and eat at VisArts during a supervised lunch hour, free of charge.

Classes are available for ages 5-18. CLICK HERE to see a full listing of available programs.

Camps include morning (9am – 12pm) or afternoon sessions (1pm – 4pm), as well as extended day options. Parents can drop kids off up to a half-hour prior to the start time and must pick up their children promptly at noon or 4pm unless they’re enrolled in our extended day program for $50 more with a 5:30 pm pick-up time.

Henricus Historical Park Spring Break Camps

April 6-10, 2020

Beat the winter doldrums and celebrate Spring Break with us at Henricus!  Join them for one immersive program and delve deep into the topic of your choice or sign up for multiple programs and receive a discount. Snacks included! Each day features a different theme. Come for a day or stay all week!

Daily themes: (ages 8-12)

April 6 – Archaeology – Grab a trowel and get ready to dig into the past!  Learn about the tools and techniques of excavation and see what you can find out about people by the things they left behind.

April 7 – Builders and Makers – How did the Powhatan Indians and English colonists get the things they needed and wanted?  Join us as we figure out how both cultures built their homes, cooked their food, made theirHome clothing, and created their other wants and needs in 17th century Virginia.

April 8 – Living Things of the James River – The James River is important to more than just fish!  Find out how we have depended upon and used the resources of the river over time.

April 9 – Sir Thomas Dale’s Colony – Do you have the grit it takes to survive martial law?  Learn about the skills, such as construction and military tactics, that it would take to succeed under military rule at Henricus fort!

April 10 – Food of the 17th Century – Come and learn what breakfast, lunch, and dinner might look like for a Powhatan Indian or an English colonist in the 17th century!

Exclusive Bobcat Presentation

Visit behind the scenes at the bobcat habitat and get close enough to hear this secretive feline purr! Do you believe in fairies? Enjoy a magical morning filled with whimsy and make-believe. Imaginative clues guide you around the lawns of Maymont as you search for the winged creatures, finding treasures along the way. Puppets Flying EVERYWHERE! Spring Break Camp 

April 6-10, 2020 

Join Puppets Off Broad Street for a week of puppetry exploration! Campers will be building different types of puppets, learning how to operate them, and having a great time with other puppet fans and friends. They will work together to learn how to connect different materials, work out mechanics, examine basic movement, and enjoy some theatre games, too! At the end of the week, campers will have an opportunity to share what they have learned in an end-of-camp showcase for families.

Richmond PAL’s Spring Break Camp allows 40 children from 8-13 years old to preview PAL’s Summer Camp. Campers will meet at Henderson Middle School (4819 Old Brook Road) at 8am before departing for their daily activities. Pick-up will be at 4:30 pm. Baseball Spring Break Camp
This all skills camp focuses on improving fundamental skills and knowledge of all aspects of both individual and team baseball competition. The camp is designed to provide players with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills and focus a tremendous amount of time on developing good baseball mechanics. All players will develop an understanding of the type of player he needs to be as he prepares to compete at more advanced levels of competition. Softball Spring Break Camp
This camp will provide girls with the chance to learn new techniques and improve their softball skills. Campers will be instructed in fundamentals including: throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, pitching, base running, and sliding. Games will emphasize techniques learned in daily instruction. All players will have an opportunity to have their throwing and exit speed velocity checked. Virginia Outside Spring Break Day Camps

April 6-10, 2020

Does your child love the outdoors? If so, they’ll love Virginia Outside’s Spring Break activities. These camps offer options for fishing day camps and/or fishing and biking day camps.

For fishing days (April 6, 8, and 10), campers will be headed to a private pond to fish for the day. This is a great time of year to be out on the water as the fish are usually hungry coming out of the colder months. Virginia Outside will provide all the equipment. No experience needed.

For fishing & mountain biking days (April 7 and 9), campers will be fishing for shad and striped bass within the city limits and hitting the trails for some mountain biking! Spring is without a doubt the best time to be out fishing the James River when the run of shad and striped bass are within the city limits.

Virginia Rep Spring Break Theater Camps 

April 6-10, 2020

Each day, campers will rotate through creative drama, music, dance and arts and crafts courses, taught by Virginia Rep’s professional educators. Campers will navigate classes and activities in a group of their own peers, based on age and grade level. The experience will encourage and support both the novice and the seasoned performer. On the last day of camp, campers will perform songs and scenes for family and friends on the Willow Lawn stage!

Even when school is out, the fun continues down in Kids’ Place! For this year’s spring break camps, there will be trips planned for the classes and several vendors coming to entertain campers and keep them active and having fun. In addition to the trips and vendors, kids will have plenty of opportunities to explore their artistic and musical side, as well as worktogether on several group projects with their classes.
