When it comes to improving brain function and reducing the signs and symptoms of ADHD, we at Brain Balance are the only supplementary learning center to approach your child with holistic and integrated programs. Why is this important to you and your child?
Because it is critical and urgent that we understand what today’s neuroscience says is actually going on in the brain of those with ADHD, as well as Dyslexia, Learning Disorders and Asperger’s. Take something as simple as exercise. A recent article (Petra Rattue. “Exercise Affects The Brain.” Medical News Today. MediLexicon, Intl., 5/23/2012.) revealed some insights into exercise and brain development.
David Bucci, an associate professor at Dartmouth’s Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, started investigating the association between exercise and memory with one of the most frequent childhood disorders, ADHD. His research team found that
“…. exercising during development, as your brain is growing, is changing the brain in concert with normal developmental changes, resulting in your having more permanent wiring of the brain in support of things like learning and memory. It seems important to [exercise] early in life.”
Brain Balance recognizes the critical importance of exercise, not only for general and brain health issues such as circulation and blood sugar stabilization, but it is also essential for creating brain development along with synchronization between the left and right sides of the brain. Neuroscience has clearly shown a lack of coherence, synchronization, coordination and developmental delay between the brain hemispheres in those with ADHD and other developmental disorders such as Dyslexia, Learning Disorders and Asperger’s.
At Brain Balance we safely measure for developmental delay between the right and left side of the brain as well as the physical capabilities of your child when it comes to core strength, synchronization and coordination of body parts during exercise and movement. Imbalances in the body and inabilities in synchronization of movement activities actually reflect brain and neurologic development and give us a great window into the true developmental status of certain brain regions and their communication, or lack thereof.
What does this mean for you? Well, for example, the dyslexic child with poor handwriting will often have persistent primitive reflexes, poor fine motor control and visual-spatial issues. Or the ADHD child that cannot catch a ball easily, has a slouching posture, or cannot kick a ball well may have poor core muscle tone from a brain based imbalance or weakness. All of these issues can be attended to with safe and appropriate exercises. On top of that, we will teach the parent home exercises specific to their child to further promote optimal brain development.
Remember the old adage that ‘exercise is medicine’? It is still true. To find out what parts of your child’s brain may be developmentally delayed and lack synchronization thus resulting in the signs and symptoms of ADHD, Dyslexia, Learning Disorders and Asperger’s, call today for a safe, painless and fun assessment of over 1000 different aspects of brain and physical development. Once you know, you will learn what to do to help your child be their best and to bring a much needed sense of relief to your child and your family. Brain Balance Center of Richmond: 804-977-2747.
