Real Richmond Review: Howl-o-Ween at Great Wolf Lodge

Getting a hug from Wiley

We love Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, and this time, we were trying out the Howl-o-Ween celebrations.

After a full afternoon of Magi-Quest and a wonderful buffet dinner at the Loose Moosein the evening (buffet is always a good option for feeding my teenage son), we got ready for some serious Halloween fun. My daughter got changed into her sorceress costume, and the boys headed for the indoor waterpark.

My Sorceress on the Trick or Treat Trail

First, she and I went on the Trick-or-Treat Trail, where witches, vampires and goblins handed out candies and gave out clues to find the next stop on the trail. Then, laden-down with candy, we then took a ride in the dark on the Howl-o-Ween Trolley. We stopped for a while and walked around the haunted graveyard looking for clues to solve the mystery, and were rewarded with another bag full of goodies.

Then we took the trolley back, so my sorceress could go for ice-cream at Bear Paw (because a candy by itself just isn’t enough).

Commencing an Adventure

More Magi-Quest. My daughter, who is quite the source of knowledge on the game, helped some little girls slay a dragon.

After dealing with the dragon, we went back to the lobby and watched a dance troupe perform to Monster Mash and Thriller. Then my kiddo and all the other little ones in their Halloween costumes got to bust some moves at the DJ Halloween Dance Party.

DJ Dance Party

That finally wore her out. We called it a day and went back to our nice room with the fireplace (yes, a fireplace!).

Candy apples in our fireplace suite – yum!

The next morning it was up-and-at ‘em! We got to the waterparkfor the opening countdown, with all the kids screaming “five, four, three, two, one!” just before the doors opened and we all rushed on in. My daughter and I stuck with the tamer activities such as the obstacle course, wave pool, lazy river and hot-tub, while the boys went on all the big slides (that make you scream all the way down).

Magi Quest Shop

Last stop before heading home: shopping at the Magi-Quest shop to buy a much-needed wand topper. You never know when those special Magi-powers will come in handy next time!

Great Wolf Lodge Howl-o-Ween runs through October 31st. Bring your costumes! Pumpkin Painting and Halloween crafts are available at the Cub Club.

Her fifth corporate relocation (yes count ‘em, five!) brought her family to Richmond VA in the summer of 2011, and she is really excited about exploring all of the possibilities that Richmond has to offer! Also, she in not moving again. Really. She means it!
