2013 March Rock Star: Lauren McCorey

Lauren McCoreyCongratulations to Lauren McCorey who is our Richmondmom.com 2013 March Rock Star.

Lauren’s husband can’t say enough about her and there is good reason – she is definitely a Rock Star!

Massage Envy SpaThis busy mom of a 3-month old baby born in December 2012, balances her time as a wife and mother, a full-time graduate student in Sports Leadership at VCU, an employee at Endorphin Fitness, and a swim coach – and still finds time to exclusively breastfeed her baby!

Lauren started working out the same week her baby was born – and was running by the next week. She is that committed to personal health and fitness!

But Lauren finds time to do even more than all of that – believe it or not.

She is running the Dismal Swamp Stomp April 13th to help raise money for three local charities:

  1. Help and Emergency Response, Inc. (H.E.R.). H.E.R. provides leadership, advocacy and resources to survivors and communities affected by domestic violence and homelessness.
  2. Cerebral Palsy of Virginia
  3. Chesapeake Parks & Recreation Youth Scholarship

She is also registered to run in an Olympic Triathlon in June. Lauren helps take care of the family’s two dogs and helps various local organizations care for homeless dogs. She is involved in many different avenues to bring about positive change in her swimmers and the sports industry in general. Lauren makes a difference with kids by helping develop them both physically and mentally.

According to her husband, “She teaches kids that having integrity is the most important trait they can have in every aspect of their lives.  She has them fill out goal sheets with home, school and swimming goals every year.  She is doing a ‘no complaining’ challenge with them right now and encouraging them to ‘eat a 5 or less diet’ (foods with 5 ingredients or less so they eat much less processed food).  She just had a swimmer this weekend who placed first in the State in one of his events,” her husband, Brett Waterworth, proudly explains.

Lauren McCorey 2Lauren is 110% focused on making a positive difference in the lives of children and adults. She takes advantage of the sports industry in general to bring about change for herself, the students she coaches, and others. She instills a sense of confidence and responsibility into her students and helps them achieve their goals and dreams. Her steadfast commitment to health and fitness make her a great role model for every age. And her commitment to helping bring about positive change in the community is personified through her actions and participation in community events to increase awareness for various causes.

Lauren’s husband sums it up best: “She is a huge advocate of living your life with integrity and loving the challenges you are presented with every day.

We are proud to recognize Lauren as a Richmondmom.com Rock Star! She will enjoy a much deserved massage from our sponsor, Massage Envy. Thanks to Lauren for all she does to make a positive difference for kids and adults everywhere!
