During the month of October, fans 14 and under can submit an essay on why Nutzy the Flying Squirrel should come to their class’s Halloween party. Nutzy will read each essay and select one lucky winner.

St. John’s Church Foundation has presented historical reenactments at the original location of the Second Virginia Convention of March 1775. Professional actors in 1770s attire portray ten delegates, including Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. The delegates engage in the debates and arguments of the Second Virginia Convention, which lead up to Patrick Henry’s immortal “Give me liberty or give me death!” speech. 1:00 pm Doors open, seating is on first come, first serve basis 1:30 pm Music program 2:00.

2013 Virginia Homeschool Convention –“Home Education: A Bountiful Harvest”. Held June 6-8, 2013, at the Greater Richmond Convention Center, this promises to be another awesome, bring-the-whole-family event–you won’t want to miss it! Farmers Market at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. 8 a.m.-noon. Fifth season for the Farmers Market @ St. Stephen’s (6000 Grove Avenue). Continues every Saturday through October 26, rain or shine. More than 30 farmers and other vendors, all local. Children’s activities, chef demos, music, ample free parking.
Boxer Brief Battle 5k Run at Rocketts Landing. The “Boxer Brief Battle” 5K Run is the first event offered by HCB2. The event focuses on colon cancer prevention and raising funds for colon cancer research, screening assistance, and advocacy. Proceeds of the 2013 “Boxer Brief Battle” 5K Run will benefit the American Cancer Society and “Access Now”. Several sponsors including Colon and Rectal Specialists of Richmond.

American Civil War Center at Tredegar - Storytelling is one of the world’s oldest traditions. Enslaved African Americans used storytelling as a way of communicating with each other and to preserve their heritage. These stories were used to help teach children how to behave, to explain the world around them and the behavior of animals and sometimes even to poke fun at the masters and themselves.

Special Olympics Virginia’s Summer Games. 9am-3pm. Summer Games, Special Olympics Virginia’s largest statewide competition, is nothing short of legendary thanks to the overwhelming support of more than 3,000 local volunteers who brave the summer heat to assist with competitions and events throughout the weekend. 1,300 Special Olympics Virginia athletes come from all corners of the state to go for the gold in swimming, softball, track & field, bowling and tennis competitions.

Supporters will gather at 6:35 pm during the Squirrels home game against the Bowie Baysox and attempt to break the
Guinness World Record for Most Simultaneous High-Fives,
a record currently held by 3,504 employees of Zappos.com, during a meeting on March 5th in Las Vegas.
Positive Vibe Café will benefit directly from special “Hi5RVA Fundraising Tickets” being sold at
the Café. There will also be ways to contribute to the program during and after the game, including sales of limited edition “World Record Holder” t-shirts.
