Grand Canyon Adventure – see website for dates and times. Opened in the IMAX®DOME Saturday, June 2. Set against the majestic backdrop of the Grand Canyon, Grand Canyon Adventure takes you on an exhilarating river-rafting adventure down the Colorado River. Meet Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a world-renowned environmental activist dedicated to water conservation and river restoration, and Wade Davis, the eminent anthropologist and writer. The film documents their journey with their daughters as it raises awareness of water management and conservation to global crisis and individual responsibility. $9, $5 for members.

Nice People Dancing. Hanover Tavern. July 13 – August 26. Tickets on sale now. Nice People Dancing is a funny, light-hearted play by award-winning Broadway and Off-Broadway playwright Lee Blessing.

Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great Kings at Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The first exhibition to explore the extraordinarily rich visual culture of India’s last royal families, Maharaja: The Splendors of India’s Great Kings spans the period from the early 18th century to the mid-20th century, bringing together over 200 magnificent objects.

Body Worlds & the Brain. Take an in-depth look at the insides of the human body! Featuring 12 actual human bodies that have been preserved through the process of plastination, Body Worlds merges anatomy with the latest neuroscience findings, demonstrating discoveries of brain development, function performance and improvement. $14 for ages 4-12 and $15 for 15+. $7.50 for members. Recommended for children 8 and over.

How People Make Things- Through Sunday, October 7, use real tools, materials, machines and processes of manufacturing in this interactive exhibition inspired by the factory tour segments from the “Mister Roger’s Neighborhood” television series. Explore the four manufacturing processes of cutting, molding, deforming and reassembling in a fun and safe manner. Included with Museum admission.

Toying with the Future. Through July 29. Wilton House Museum, 215 S. Wilton Road, Richmond. Exhibition presents toys from the 18th through the 21st centuries, and considers the similarities and differences between social values.

Spring Awakening - November Theater. Winner of eight 2007 TONY Awards, Spring Awakening examines the unbridled energy that ignites the journey from youth to adulthood. Charged with sexual power, poignancy and passion (plus a brilliant contemporary score), Spring Awakening was named “Best Musical of the Year” by nearly every critic including the New York Times. “BOLD! Summer Reading Club. Through August 31. Henrico County Public Libraries. Register online with your Henrico library card, or stop by any of the nine locations. Running the Numbers: An American Self Portrait by Chris Jordan -Now-Sunday, October 14 at the Science Museum of Virginia. Discover artist Chris Jordan’s visual representations of societal statistics using repetitive images to connect you each number. His image of 28,000 oil barrels depicts the amount of oil consumed in the United States every two minutes and his image of one hundred million toothpicks equates with the number of trees cut in the U.S. each year to make paper for junk mail. Recommended for sixth grade and above. Included with Museum admission.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond – FREE annual Summer Camp Challenge. This year’s program features group projects, economics & personal finance themed children’s books, and interactive exhibits. Families After 5 Tuesday, July 24 5:00p to 9:00p at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Henrico, VA. The garden stays open late on Tuesday evenings in June, July and August for families to explore the gardens and the Children’s Garden for WaterPlay and special activities each week. Celebrate summer and stay out late!

Head to the Virginia Historical Society every Tuesday and Friday night this summer for the RVA Food Truck Court, a gathering of over 10 gourmet mobile catering vendors. Participating food trucks will offer gourmet chef inspired food, specialty beverages, and desserts. Check website for changes in dates/times.

Wild in the City: Slip, Sip and Zip! This tour showcases the exciting opportunities for adventure recreation in the middle of downtown Richmond. Suitable for ages 8 and up, this adventure introduces guests to the beautiful and historic James River with its Class IV rapids running through downtown and includes parts of Shockoe Slip. You won’t get wet, but you will walk on bridges and a pipeline that overlook the river, enjoy a picnic lunch from Alamo BBQ at historic Tredegar delivered by Quickness RVA, and head to Belle Isle for a zip along Passages Adventure Camp’s thrilling zipline over the Belle Isle Quarry. Experience what Richmond’s riverfront has to offer–hiking, history, and heights!  Tour runs with an 8 person minimum. You may purchase a ticket that includes the zipline or one that does not. A waiver must be signed to use the zipline. Children under the age of 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian. There is a 250 lb. limit to use the zipline.

Barnes & Noble Storytime at Short Pump Children’s Storytime: Toddlers and Preschoolers (Ages 6 and Under). Join us each Thursday for our Children’s Storytime. On the third Thursday of each month, we’ll have a special visit from Seymour and the Children’s Museum.

SPARC Performs at CMoR Central – 11:00 a.m. – join CMoR Central as SPARC SummerStarz ensemble performs an excerpt from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Performance included in regular museum admission.

Short Pump Summer Concert Series – The Summer Concert Series returns beginning June 21st and continuing every Thursday evening (weather permitting) through August 16th. Concerts begin at 6:00 PM and run until 8:00 PM in the Main Plaza – July 26 – The Slack Family (Contemporary Bluegrass).

Work It, Richmond’s Birthday Party – It may be hard to believe, but Work It, Richmond is turning one. So join us for fun, socializing and networking at Pasture, one of the many cool small businesses we’ve discovered during the past year. This is a casual event. No agenda, no speaker (unless Jacob starts giving toasts), no need to wear a tie. Don’t miss out! The event is free, but please RSVP by the morning of July 26 so we can have a rough headcount to share with the restaurant. We want to make sure there is enough pimento cheese!

Richmond Concert Band at Pocahontas State Park – Join others in this free concert by the Richmond Concert Band. The Richmond Concert Band, directed by Dr. Mark Poland, is the area’s oldest community concert band. Gates open at 5 p.m. Pocahontas Premieres is a series of concerts hosted at Pocahontas State Park’s spacious amphitheatre.
