Spooky and Funny Halloween Events Throughout October 

Every Friday and Saturday night in October; Jouney Trails 2012 with 2 haunted trails, and a startling museum of the terrifying past. Located between Central VA and the Hampton Roads area just 1 mile off I64 at Exit 211.

Howl-O-Fest at Kings Dominion (for kids) - It’s trick-or-treat with just the treats! Come enjoy all sorts of treats at daytime Howl-O-Fest’s Boo Blast at Kings Dominion. Families can enjoy Halloween together with a street party of frightful fun including a treasure hunt, foam pit, pumpkin painting and more! Howl-O-Fest’s Boo Blast runs every Saturday and Sunday in October from noon until 5:00pm. Learn more below about our Howl-O-Fest activities below.

Kings Dominion Halloween Haunt (not recommended for children!) - There’s nowhere to run and nowhere to hide.  Screams of pure panic pierce the night. Waggles’ Tricks & Treats Halloween Party at the Richmond SPCA. 5:30pm – 7 pm. Please join Waggles, our humane education spokesdog, and all of his friends for a special Halloween Party! Join us for Tricks & Treats! Our special K-9 guests will perform their fanciest tricks and both guest K9′s and Kids are encouraged to show off their Halloween finest. Please, do not bring dogs to the event. Donations are welcome for this free event. Help us in the lifesaving work of the Richmond SPCA.

Legends, Tales and Ghosts Stories of 19th Century Richmond at the Virginia State Capitol at 6:30 p.m. The Richmond Walks and History Programs has resurrected their most popular tour! Stroll the beautiful Capitol grounds in Richmond and learn about Edgar Allan Poe’s last love and the tragic ending, the collapse of the Capitol in 1870, the belle who inspired Richmond’s most tragic duel, the ghost of the Governor’s Mansion and more! Reservations are required and tickets may be purchased with cash or check prior to start of tour.

Hanover Academy Halloween Festival at 6:00 p.m. – 115 Francis Road, Ashland, VA). Join us for a fun evening open to the community! No admission for trick or treating the classrooms, then join us in the gym for food, costume contest, games, cake walks, bouncy house, and hayrides outside weather permitting. Hayrides after dark will be haunted. Tickets will be available at the gym doors for all activities other than trick or treating.

Saturday, October 27

Scarytown is Saturday October 27, 2012 in Carytown. Look for the “pumpkin” in the merchant’s window that says “come in for Scarytown treats”. They have agreed to participate in Scarytown safe trick or treating. The Kid’s contest will be at 3:30pm at Premiere Costumes. The Pet contest begins at 3pm. Registration is from 2-3pm at Dogma. There is no entry fee or entry forms for the contests. Trick or Treating will officially be from 12-5pm, though some merchants may continue after that.

Spooky Saturday on October 27. It is held from 3-7 at Mary Munford Elementary School (211 Westmoreland Avenue, Richmond VA 23226). Spooky Saturday is Mary Munford’s largest community-oriented fundraiser. With Spooky Saturday in it’s 20th year, there will be food and fun for all ages including the hay maze, moon bounce and obstacle course, carnival games, and some new surprises this year. Everyone is welcome to join the fun!

Chester Family YMCA Fall Harvest Festival and Haunted House from 6:30 pm – 8:30 pm on 3011 W. Hundred Road, Chester, VA. Children’s crafts, family games, cupcake walk, face painting, refreshments, and lots of family-friendly fun. You’ll also enjoy the spooky haunted house.

Spooktacular Halloween Festival – Westchester Commons at Village Green from 1-3 p.m. First 200 kids receive a free pumpkin. Pumpkin decorating, hayrides, games, crafts, treats, and more.

Virginia Center Commons is hosting its annual Halloween event on Saturday, October 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m., offering a variety of fun and frightening seasonal festivities for families. The event will be presented by The Hub TV Network, a destination for kids and their families. The Hub will provide fun activities for attendees, giveaways and trick-or-treat bags (while supplies last). Additionally, during the event, little ones can view some of the network’s fun, kid-friendly, spooky-themed episodes of shows including “My Little Pony Friendship is Magic” and “Transformers Rescue Bots.”  For more information about the Simon Kidgits Club, visit the website.

VHBG Trunk or Treat – 2pm – 5 pm – Bring your kids to the campus of Virginia Home for Boys and Girls (VHBG) for an exciting afternoon of trunk-or-treating in a safe family environment. This unique event allows children to fetch Halloween candy from the backs of vehicles gathered in the campus parking lot. Dozens of cars will sport fun decorations and themes to entertain children in this special Halloween tailgating event. Join us for trick-or-treating, pumpkin painting, clowns, an inflatable rock wall and arts projects.

Squirreloween at the Diamond (rescheduled due to bad weather this past weekend.)  Updated: Due to weather, postponed until Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Check their website for more details. Join the Flying Squirrels at The Diamond this Sunday for Squirreloween! A free afternoon of costumes, crafts, candy, hayrides and live entertainment. Last year, roughly 5,000 kids turned out. Free.
