Last Week of 2012: December 24-30

cartoon-christmas-calendar-01The kids are really excited this week for sure! The build-up to the Christmas holiday culminates when the guy with the red suit and white beard bounds down the chimney (or through the door if you don’t have a chimney!). Many families and friends will gather on December 24 and 25 to celebrate the Christmas holiday, while most businesses take off a much-needed day themselves on Christmas Day.

But even with a brief lull in business activity during the holiday, there will be plenty to do as the week begins again on Wednesday. Fruitcake Science, Post Holiday Celebrations at Spirited Art, First Fridays with Frank, Romp n’ Roll Winter Camp, RVA on Ice, and Arena Racing are a few of the activities this week. See details below.

Don’t forget to check our New Year’s Celebration Calendar for more upcoming events and activities to help ring in the New Year 2013!

Have a great week, celebrate, and have fun. And when possible, take time to ‘pay it forward’ and do something for the ’26 Acts’ movement to remember the 26 who lost their lives at Sandy Hook Elementary.

ONGOING

Closer Than Ever (Through January 6, 2013) at Virginia Repertory Theatre is an intimate musical about love, friendship, security, and happiness – holding onto those essentials in a world that seems to spin faster every day. In 1989, the New York Times described it as “one of the half-dozen finest American theater scores of the last decade.” This Off Broadway classic originally opened with a smash hit production in Greenwich Village in 1989, and was most recently revived in NYC this season, once again earning universal raves from critics and audiences alike. That recent hit revival closed last Sunday after a sold-out five month run.
