Real Richmond Review: Fruit 66 – A Drink Made Right Here in RVA

William Hargis, a local dad and businessman, was concerned when he learned of Richmond’s childhood obesity problems. He’s worked many years creating and perfecting natural drinks that children would prefer to unhealthy soft drinks. We were recently sent some of his Fruit 66 products to try out and wanted to share our experience with you.Fruit 66

The basket arrived at my office and I couldn’t wait for the kids to get off the bus to check out their loot–a bunch of new drinks to try! They, along with a couple of neighbor friends, dug right in and their response:

Yummy!

This is cool stuff!

Mmm, since it’s good for us, can we have another one?

I’ve always been a supporter of local Richmond businesses, and had heard of Fruit 66 being offered at Richmond area schools, but didn’t know much more about it. It was fun to learn that the drinks were made not only to appeal to kids, but to nutrition professionals, since the USDA has confirmed that each can are the equivalent of one serving of fruit.

The new line, called Epic, are crated to appeal to tweens and teenagers who often make poor choices (like soda) when it comes to beverages. If you’ve ever heard of the drink “The Switch”–it also comes from William’s creativity, and it’s pretty awesome that the Fruit 66 Headquarters is located in our very own Shockoe Bottom near the Poe Museum.

Fruit 66 has been offered to students in public schools in Virginia including Richmond City, Chesterfield and Henrico County, and can also be ordered online, if you’d like your kiddos to test it out, too.
