RevQuest: The Lion and The Unicorn game returns to Colonial Williamsburg’s Revolutionary City for the spring break season through April 21. Participants in the alternate reality game join the Friends of Liberty while they save the American Revolution by protecting the identity of an important patriot spy. During summer 2012, more than 19,000 gamers participated in the game’s first full season.

Flying Squirrels to benefit Massey Cancer Center.Grab family, friends and coworkers to join us Tuesday, April 9, as the Richmond Flying Squirrels partner with VCU Massey Cancer Center to raise funds to benefit the HDL, Inc. Massey Challenge.Doors open at 5:30pm. The game begins at 6:35 p.m., rain or shine. Tickets are $7 and are GENERAL ADMISSION tickets. Thomas Jefferson Birthday Celebration. President Thomas Jefferson will be honored at the Virginia State Capitol on Friday, April 12, 2013, the day before the 270th anniversary of his birth. The event is free and open to the public. Guests should enter the Capitol at the visitor’s entrance on Bank Street and ask for directions to the Jefferson Room.

The Mother of All Walks: Walk Like MADD with Mothers Against Drunk Driving – their annual awareness/fundraising event, Walk Like MADD, coming up on April 13 at Dorey Park.
Heritage Weekend at Historic Bloemendaal House. Included with Garden admission. Music and activities highlighting the Garden’s past. Enjoy tours of Bloemendaal House and imagine its early days as the original Lakeside Wheel Club. Cycling enthusiasts will demonstrate their prowess atop vintage bicycles on the lawn of Bloemendaal House. Ragtime-era music will ring out from the Bloemendaal tent where The Titanic String Band will perform 30-minute sets (on the half hour). Meanwhile, The Four in the Morning Quartet will stroll and serenade guests throughout the Garden with a variety of popular music from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Fool for Art at John Tyler Community College. The festival will feature art and craft vendors, more than 100 hands-on activities and free educational sessions, information on how to go green, food, music and much more. Free document shredding is being offered from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
From Foundry to Fire! at The American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar at 2pm. Learn about the importance of the cannon manufacturing capabilities of Tredegar Ironworks, as well as, the role field artillery played in the Civil War. A costumed artillery crew will explain the process of making and testing the cannon and then demonstrate its use on the battlefield.
Stories from the Field Quarter at 12noon. Tredegar – Storytelling is one of the world’s oldest traditions. Enslaved African Americans used storytelling as a way of communicating with each other and to preserve their heritage. These stories were used to help teach children how to behave, to explain the world around them and the behavior of animals and sometimes even to poke fun at the masters and themselves. Virginia 529 Kids Run for 5-12 year olds.This one-mile event for kids ages 5-12 features all of the excitement of the 10k. They’ll kick off the morning by warming up with music and mingling with some local mascots until the start gun goes off. After racing their little hearts out, they’ll finish to the roar of a crowd through the same chute as the 10k-ers, where they’ll get a commemorative medal and head into a secure meeting area. Don’t forget to pick them up, because post-race food and festivities await!

Gallery Tour: Fateful Lighting: Religion and the Civil War at 1pm. Join museum educator Sean Kane for a gallery tour focusing on the role religion played in the American Civil War. From the bible’s use to justify and condemn slavery to the religious revivals that swept up soldiers in camp, this tour will highlight artifacts that tell the fascinating story of a war in which “both sides read the same Bible, and pray to the same God; and each invokes His aid against the other.” Buy your tickets.

Youth Orchestra Program at Richmond Symphony. The Richmond Symphony’s flagship educational program consists of four youth orchestras providing beginning to advanced musical training. As the premiere orchestral training program of central Virginia, students participate in weekly rehearsals, coachings and master classes by Richmond Symphony musicians, chamber music performances, mentoring and other musical and social activities.
