What is the Xpo?
The Arts and Culture Xpo (formerly know as the Cultsha Xpo) is an annual event presented by CultureWorks spotlighting the Richmond region’s non-profit arts and culture organizations. It is a gathering for anyone who values arts and culture in our community!
The Arts and Culture Xpo is an explosion of the arts, history, science, and family fun for the Richmond Region – all under one roof on one day. The day features:
- FREE admission
- FREE performances on two stages from local arts and culture organizations including musical, visual art, theatrical, historical, dance and more!
- Opportunities to learn about memberships, classes, tickets, subscriptions, performances, education programs and so much more from more than local participating arts and culture organizations. VIEW THE LIST OF 2013 EXHIBITORS HERE!
- FREE money – XpoBucks – for registered Cultural Shareholders to use at the event, with any of the participating nonprofit organizations. Any preregistered Shareholder is guaranteed at least $10 in Bucks.
What is a Cultural Shareholder?
A Cultural Shareholder is anyone, of voting age, who recognizes and values arts and culture to help build great communities. There are no fees to be a Shareholder but registration is required. Shareholders receive benefits including a weekly list of arts and culture unadvertised weekend bargains, and are asked their opinions regarding issues confronting the Richmond region through a monthly survey. Currently there are more than 4,600 Cultural Shareholders. Click here to learn more.
Dr. Cook Presents a Challenge
Dr. John R. Cook has made a “Champions Challenge” gift of $50,000 to simultaneously support more than 100 nonprofit arts and culture organizations in the Richmond region participating in the 2013 Arts and Culture Xpo.
His gift to the June 29th Arts and Culture Xpo guarantees 100,000 XpoBucks will be given to and “spent” by Xpo attendees among the 106 organizations showcased at the Xpo: Richmond Symphony, Richmond Ballet, Historic Richmond Foundation, Valentine Richmond History Center, Cultural Arts Center at Glen Allen, Visual Arts Center of Richmond, Children’s Museum of Richmond, Maymont, American Youth Harp Ensemble and more.
“I am a great admirer of all of these wonderful organizations,” said Dr. Cook. “And I am so pleased to be able to support them at the Arts and Culture Xpo.”
Dr. Cook – well known for his lifetime of philanthropy along with that of his late partner, Dr. Waverly M. Cole – offers this gift as a challenge for other individuals to do the same with gifts of $50 or more – gifts that will enable them to be official “Champions for Arts and Culture”.
Every dollar of a Champions gift:
- Keeps the Arts and Culture Xpo FREE.
- Provides money – via XpoBucks – to over 100 arts and culture organizations.
- Insures CultureWorks continues its year-round service and leadership for arts and culture in the Richmond region.
- Champions for Arts and Culture will have a ticket to the Champions Area featuring: unique gifts and one-of-a-kind experiences like the all-day presence of the University of Richmond’s Center for Culinary Arts.
- Dr. Cook will be present for part of the day to meet and thank persons who have met his Champions Challenge.
