Where do you turn when your child experiences a life threatening illness? It’s a very difficult time in your life and in the lives of your family and friends. There is no amount of help that can make the agony of the situation go away – but there is help that will provide you with support, resources, and understanding to make it easier for you to navigate the course ahead.
Noah’s Children
Noah’s Children is an organization that provides pediatric palliative and hospice care services. The organization provides the support and resources families need at this extremely difficult time in life.
The goal of Noah’s Children, Central Virginia’s only pediatric palliative care and hospice program, is to deliver comprehensive, compassionate care for mind, body and spirit to the patient and the whole family. Through an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, spiritual caregivers and volunteers, they closely assess the multiple needs and desires of children and families to develop a comprehensive plan of care.
“We aim to fulfill our goals with sensitivity toward our patients’ and their families’ personal, developmental, cultural and religious values, beliefs and practices.” Noah’s Children
Noah’s Children also encourages families to seek out support from family members, friends, church or others who have experienced similar situations. They offer an extensive list of resources, support groups and websites to help. They also maintain a printed library with books and articles for parents whose child has a life-threatening or terminal illness.
Supporting Noah’s Children
Noah’s Children is always in need of volunteers and financial support. Giving to Noah’s Children Fund means you are a part of bringing compassionate palliative and hospice care to Central Virginia children, currently at no charge to patients or their insurance companies.
Families with sick children often face high medical costs, many of which are not reimbursed by insurance companies. That can mean little money is left for simple, everyday activities – or for patients’ healthy siblings to participate in programs and classes. Noah’s Children helps fill this gap and reaches out to the entire family.
Many people specify how they want to help. They may choose to provide patients or their siblings with:
- A backpack filled with school supplies ($65)
- A child’s birthday party ($200)
- A week of camp ($300)
- Music therapy to help kids communicate ($300/month per child)
