Christopher Robin and all the characters in the hundred acre woods have a special place in the hearts of many children and adults.
Virginia Rep is bringing the beloved Christopher Robin and his lovable, faithful friends to life beginning this weekend at Willow Lawn.
Directed by Artistic Director, Bruce Miller, this charming story features the faithful characters of Piglet, Tigger, Christopher Robin, and Winnie the Pooh. Virginia Rep’s production is based on the novel by A.A. Milne as adapted by Betty Knapp, with musical adaptation and additional lyrics by Bruce Craig Miller and musical arrangement by Jason Marks.
But here’s something we’re really excited about…
Because all children deserve to have a wonderful experience at the theatre, Virginia Rep is partnering with The Faison School for a pilot program to offer sensory adapted performances for children with autism and other sensory, social, or learning disabilities.
Virginia Rep is one of the first, if not the first, performing arts organization to adapt their program for special need audiences. Faison staff will work with Virginia Rep to provide insight on how to adapt light, sound and edits in dialogue and provide special training for theatre staff and volunteers.
In preparation for the adapted performances, Virginia Rep will help students with what to expect at the theatre through video or visits from costumed characters to the school before the performance.
Virginia Rep hopes to open subsequent shows to other schools and families with autism later in the season.
