The scoop on the Richmond-based band The Diggity Dudes

imageJust who are those Diggity Dudes we keep hearing about? We thought we’d find out. I mean any band with lyrics like “Don’t bite your buddy, even though you’re hungry” and “dirty teeth, they make my breath stink” has to be cool, right?

The Diggity Dudes are a kid-friendly Richmond-based band that sings about values, good citizenship, and life lessons, with an occasional just-for-fun crazy dancing song thrown in for good measure. They provide family oriented entertainment for children 3-11 years old (though we have many adult fans who also feel our music is mighty diggity too!)

After many years of playing “grown up music,” Diggity Dudes Mike Hartsfield and Donny Atkins began writing a catalog of catchy songs for their kids. The Dudes decided if their kids liked what they heard, others would too. In December of 2009, Mike and Donny added Diggity Scott Milstead (a founding member of Carbon Leaf and their drummer for 15 yrs.) on drums & percussion. They immediately began work on what would become their debut album, My Science Project, which was released on June 5th at Richmond’s famed CMoR (Children’s Museum of Richmond).

The Diggity Dudes have been playing schools and events since early 2010, and have maintained the same simple goal throughout: educate while entertaining. The Dudes are committed to helping provide all the young Dudes and Dudettes with an opportunity to experience the power and joy of a life enriched by music.
