The Zula Patrol: Mission Weather – Lands at Both CMoR Locations this Fall

The Zula Patrol lands at both CMoR locations.

With all of the recent thunderstorms, extreme heat, hurricanes, tornado warnings, and other weather-related events, the Children’s Museum of Richmond is presenting The Zula Patrol: Mission Weather just in time. This exhibit is based on the popular PBS children’s TV show.

Both Locations

The great news is that the exhibit will be at both CMoR locations.

  • CMoR Central – the exhibit begins September 17 and will stay at Central for 5 weeks.
  • CMoR Short Pump – the exhibit moves to Short Pump on October 24 and stays through December 31

Five multicolored, interactive stations designed for children ages 3 – 8 present early learners with key science concepts as they explore what weather is, how it works, what affects it and how it affects us. The three month event will also include daily character appearances by the show’s Captain Bula, as well as story time each day.

“We’re delighted to be able to bring the Zula exhibit to Richmond,” said Karen Coltrane, the museum’s president and CEO. “We know how important it is for children to become interested in science at an early age; it helps them understand and relate to the world around them and prepares them for higher levels of learning.”

What Kids Learn

Enjoy The Zula Patrol at both locations this fall. See dates.

Erie Insurance is sponsoring the event and kids get a chance to experience so much about the weather. They will learn what it feels like to touch a cloud; step inside hot and cold temperature domes to comprehend weather extremes; use the power of wind to move objects and set off a chain reaction of events; examine changing weather conditions through the spacecraft’s Weather Window; and conduct their own research in the Multopedia interactive media station. They’ll even get to participate in the activity center with lots of weather related activities and projects.

Since weather is such an important part of our daily lives, this exhibit helps children understand more about what is happening. They learn first-hand while they have fun and engage their problem-solving and thinking processes. The activities will help them strengthen cognitive abilities, data processing, and skills.

Grand Opening Day

The grand opening of The Zula Patrol: Mission Weather, on Saturday, September 17, will be a festive event with character appearances by Captain Bula throughout the day including “lift-off” style countdowns to each appearance, videos of the PBS children’s show Zula Patrol, a Moon Bounce in the museum and Moon Pies for everyone.

Make plans to visit the Children’s Museum of Richmond for a first-hand look at The Zula Patrol: Mission Weather at the Central or Short Pump locations.
