Acts of Kindness along the Road to SXSW

this is a pretty accurate look at what our team will be doing at SXSW and along the route. Thanks Real Life Studios for capturing us.

Although it’s not required by Chevy, Adopt-a-Classroom, or anyone affiliated with our Chevy Road Trip Challenge to South By Southwest (SXSW as it’s known), our team–team RVAEpic Tales is taking on a mission that some of the past teams have taken by showing kindness along our 1,417-mile trek.

We’ve picked up gift cards to randomly share with folks that we meet–and we’ll be telling you their stories as well.

Alexander Mustico, our Richmond Adopt-a-Classroom teacher from Carver Elementary School

We kicked off our fundraising to show some love to our Richmond Adopt-a-Classroom at Carver Elementary School last week at Wine Down Wednesday, raising $700, and Richmondmom.com is donating a minimum of $250 to ‘em in our Top Teacher contest. We’ll be visiting classrooms in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and Austin, Texas as well. To show ‘em some love, you can make donations which help provide school supplies to needy kids by clicking on the Adopt a Classroom site.

We’ve asked for ideas on our RVAEpicTales Facebook and Twitter accounts, and have a great head start, Some of the ideas are:

-pay tolls for drivers behind us

-give flowers to a waitress unexpectedly

-buy coffee for truckdrivers

-buy a Coke and a candy bar for gas station attendants, whom many waiting in long lines don’t often appreciate

-dropping off food at an animal shelter

-donuts to a random workplace or police station (hey, we didn’t come up with this!)

-if our travels allow, drop off money or supplies to areas hit by the recent 2012 tornadoes

-leave tips at “dusty desolate diners”

and we were even sent this amazing blog called Intentional Acts of Kindness by a friend on Twitter, which we’ll be using!

We’d love your ideas as well! Comment below and let us know what we should do along our journey to show the folks we meet what a cool–and kind–city Richmond, Virginia really is.

After all, we’ve already received so much kindness from Richmonders like Dominion Auto Group, Classic Catering, Libbie & Winston, and the countless friends and well-wishers who are cheering us on and will be joining us at our send-off on Tuesday, March 6, 2012 (we’d love to have you there, too!)

Thank you to our friends at Dominion Auto group for sponsoring us on our journey.
