St. Catherine’s School Celebrates Taylor Anderson’s Life

St. Catherine's remembers Taylor through helping the victims of Japan's devastation.

As we continue to mourn the death of Taylor Anderson, a Richmond native who lost her life in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami, St. Catherine’s celebrates her memory. In addition, they issued the following press release on March 23, 2011:

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ST. CATHERINE’S SCHOOL ESTABLISHES MEMORIAL FUND IN HONOR OF TAYLOR ANDERSON

Richmond, Va. – March 23, 2011 – St. Catherine’s School continues to be overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and compassion in memory of Taylor Anderson ’04 from our School community, the Richmond area and beyond. In response, the School has established the Taylor Anderson ’04 Memorial Gift Fund. All money raised will be given in Taylor’s memory to benefit the relief efforts in Japan, the country she loved so dearly. St. Catherine’s will work with the Anderson family to direct the funds in the way that best honors Taylor’s legacy. Our hope is to help with the rebuilding of the schools in the region where Taylor taught.

Online donations may be made at www.st.catherines.org/tayloranderson. Please click on the button for the Taylor Anderson ’04 Memorial Gift Fund. Complete the information requested and check the box for the Taylor Anderson ’04 Memorial Gift. Checks should be made payable to St. Catherine’s School Foundation. Please write Taylor Anderson Memorial Gift in the memo line and mail to Taylor Anderson Memorial Gift, c/o St. Catherine’s Foundation, 6001 Grove Ave., Richmond, VA 23226. All donations received will be combined with student-initiated community service projects to assist the people of Japan. Students in all three divisions are currently planning activities to use their unique talents and gifts to make a difference. With Taylor as their role model, the girls are developing creative ways to live the School’s motto, “What we keep we lose; only what we give remains our own.”

Taylor was from Chesterfield County and had moved to Japan several years ago to teach English to the Japanese children. You can visit the St. Catherine’s website to learn more about Taylor’s life and the differences she made for hundreds of people around the world. You can also contribute to the fund through the website to remember Taylor’s life and help others.

As a grandparent and parent, I cannot imagine how difficult this must be for Taylor’s family. My heart and prayers continue to reach out to them.
