Who doesn’t enjoy fresh, locally grown foods? And now, there’s another farmer’s market opening and you don’t want to miss it.
Beginning May 5, the Powhatan Farmer’s Market will be open every Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with 60 vendors or more expected this summer. As more produce ripens around the county there could be new additions to the vendor list too. The market runs through the first week in November as a producer-only market – vendors must grow or make what they sell which means that no reselling is allowed so you’re assured the freshest possible produce.
The Powhatan Farmer’s Market promotes local farms, growers and artisans by creating a venue for them to interact and sell their goods to local families. They are totally committed to providing the freshest, highest quality, locally grown products and to sustaining the environment in as many ways a possible.
You can visit with vendors and find out where food is grown and how it is cared for. Support local vendors where you’ll also find safer and more nutritious food alternatives from the standard supermarket variety. Tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, squash, watermelon, strawberries, cantaloupe, desserts, dairy and eggs are just a few of the things you’ll find at this Powhatan market. Vegetables are allowed to ripen on the vine which gives local foods a richer, more delicious flavor than those shipped across country.
For more information, contact the Powhatan Farmers Market Manager, Lori Ann Armstrong at [email protected], or call the Powhatan Economic Development Authority at 804.598.5605.
The market is located at Old Buckingham Road – Courthouse Area in Powhatan, VA. Click here for directions. Take advantage of local vegetables, fruits and more this spring and summer and support local farmers and producers. It’s one more way to help keep your family healthy.
