We trekked to DC in the early morning, excited to see first-hand all the hub-bub of the How to Train Your
Dragon Live Spectacular show at the Verizon Center. Let’s just sum it up by saying it was well worth the trip.
The 11am show opened with Hiccup, the lovable central character telling us about his life among the vikings (with whom he’s not considered brave enough to hang) who live to slay dragons. We were introduced to the fascinating multi-media show where Hiccup is drawing on the stage below and we see the results of his work on the giant screen at left, real-time. The impact of the sounds and movement of both the “movie” portion combined with real actors is something I’ve never before experienced and won’t soon forget! It’s magical.
The kids, ages five, seven, and ten, were completely enthralled and with
the exception of two brief breaks for technical difficulties (cannot even imagine how much computerization encompassed this show) were glued to their seats.
I won’t give too much more away except to say that this is completely worth the drive, and be prepared to
buy the kids swag–the dragons and characters are just too lovable–and let’s face it, every kid should own a flashing viking or Toothless the Dragon hat.
Sadly the show ends tomorrow, but if you can swing it–please go! It’s a remarkable family date.
