Grab your hat and read with the Cat!

The Community Idea Stations’ Ready To Learn program will be partnering with other local organizations for Read Across America events featuring The Cat in the Hat on March 1 and 2.

Friday, March 1: Fairfield Court Elementary School, 9-10am

The Community Idea Stations’ Ready To Learn Program will partner with Communities in Schools for a Read Across America event at Fairfield Court Elementary. Over 30 volunteers will be on hand to read to each class and ensure that each student will receive a book. A very special guest, The Cat in the Hat, will make appearances as well!

Friday, March 1: Richmond Public Library, 3:30-5pm

The Richmond Public Library’s Main Branch at 101 E. Franklin Street is hosting a fun-filled birthday party for Dr. Seuss. Kids can see Cat in the Hat wear a silly hat and participate in games, crafts, and more. Snacks provided. Ages 2 and up. Groups can call for reservations at 646-4768.

Saturday, March 2: Children’s Museum of Richmond Chesterfield, 10am-4pm

A special event will take place at CMoR’s Chesterfield location, in partnership with the Chesterfield Education Association. The day will include Cat in the Hat appearances and Dr. Seuss-themed activities. Guest readers will hold story times throughout the day and multiple languages will be represented. Children who participate in this are encouraged to bring a book for the Greater Richmond Children’s Book Bank.

“The Community Idea Stations’ Ready To Learn Program is pleased to be able to bring The Cat in the Hat to Richmond to celebrate Read Across America Day,” says Ready To Learn Coordinator Trish Reed. “We all know how vital good reading skills are to success in school and the Cat’s appearance will be an exciting, fun way to get children interested in reading.”
