Sewinit Creates More Than Just Curtains

Karen creates one-of-a-kind baby blankets, bed covers, awnings, and more.

Have you ever had those moments when you met someone for the first time, and within the first five minutes you were chatting like old friends?

That’s exactly what happened today!

I walked into Panera Bread in Short Pump searching for someone I had never met and before I knew it, we were talking so much that we didn’t realize how quickly time had passed. Karen Curcio is the owner and creative genius behind Sewinit, a local company right here in Richmond. I had arranged a meeting with her to learn more about her company and find out exactly what she had to offer.

And boy was I blown away!

Karen has created a business out of a passion for sewing and she is definitely one-of-a-kind when it comes to quality and customer service. Her creative designs for draperies, curtains, table runners, chair covers, pillows and more were awesome. She took her passion and hobby of sewing and headed to North Carolina, where she attended school to learn more about the intricacies of designing and sewing ornate window treatments and more. Armed with her refined knowledge of sewing, she headed back to Richmond to open her business.

As a grandmother, I was especially enamored with her unique creations for babies and children. And of course, with 11 grandchildren of her own, she knows a little about what they need!

With custom designed blankets, bassinet covers, curtains, chair pads, and other nursery decorations, she has a huge array of products. She also creates lots of functional items including monogrammed bibs, playmats, pillows, burp cloths, and more. She starts with her basic designs and then makes them unique based on customer requests, colors and other special adornments to suit the character of each individual home and person.

Karen and I chatted over coffee and talked about sewing, grandchildren, our children, and life until we were finally forced to leave due to other commitments. But we didn’t leave without a plan to meet up again soon to continue our discussion and choose fabric for her to make my pillows!

If you’re looking for someone who can help you create that special window treatment, pillow or baby blanket, you definitely want to contact Karen. You will definitely be happy with the quality of her work and her attention to your particular needs.
