Advance Camp (10-16 boys and girls)
June 20-24, June 27-July 1, July 4-8, July 18-22, Aug. 1-5, Aug. 8-12
New Format! Campers have the opportunity to select an entire week of rock climbing or an entire week of kayaking. Climbers will build top-rope anchors, learn to lead and crack climb. Kayakers will take on advanced whitewater, learn freestyle rodeo kayak moves as well as run some sweet waterfalls.
These day camp sessions are specifically designed for all campers who have mastered our traditional One Week Sessions and have earned a Level III patch. Our Advance Campers have three things in common: 1) The want to graduate as a Jedi Master from our Rock and River Master Program, 2) They desire the skills to kayak and climb outside of Passages and 3) They see themselves as a Passages Counselor one day.
The Advance Camp Guides are our most highly skilled and experienced kayaking and climbing staff. The goal of our Guides is to challenge campers to achieve Levels IV and V by building hard-core skills and develop leadership. We maintain a 4:1 camper to Guide ratio to ensure the success of each of our Advance Campers.
Included in the price of a week of Advance Kayaking Camp are kayak rolling sessions. They take place in the weeks leading up to camp so each camper can hit the river rolling!

The Blast (11-16 boys and girls)
July 11-15 and July 25-29
Like the name indicates, this new camp is all about having a wicked good time but without kayaks and ropes. Try to keep up with us as we take the 100′ slip-n-slide, river swim, rope swing, zip-line and exploring the sweetest spots in the James River Park System to a brand new level. This camp is ideal for older campers who are new to Passages as well as our hard core campers(future Passages Staff) who want to take a break from their pursuit of becoming a Passages Jedi Master in our Rock and River Master Program. This camp will not make you a stronger climber or kayaker but it will make you fall asleep every night with a great big smile on your face. This will be your new favorite thing. You’re gonna love it like a snow day!

Overnight Programs (11 – 17 boy and girls)
Experience Passages 24 hours a day with one of our fantastic overnight camps. Climb and rappel in the New River Gorge during Rock Week in West Virginia or learn to survive in the wilderness with ourPrimitive Survival Skills in Western Goochland. There’s also River Week-a seven day kayaking trip to the New River Gorge in West Virginia.
Climbing Programs (8 – 17 boys and girls)
Why limit your fun and adventure to the summer months? We offer year-round programs, all of which will contribute to your climbing skills and progress in our Rock & River Master Program.
Participants will build leadership skills, develop teamwork and improve their self-esteem and confidence through a variety of activities.
Junior Climbing Team and Climbing Team meet weekly all year at Peak Experiences, on a rolling admission. Both offer sweet opportunities to significantly improve your climbing.
Counselor in Training Program (14 – 17 boys and girls)
At Passages, we grow our own staff. Most of our 130 staff were day campers, then developed their hard and soft skills through our Rock and River Master Program, Advance Camp and Overnight Camps. All of our Jedi Masters have joined our staff and are the best equipped to share their passions for kayaking and climbing with our campers. Our staff retention is better than 90% year after year.
Although there is no cost for participating in our CIT Program, the CITs earn their keep for sure. Our CIT candidates fill-out their own job application, schedule an interview, receive a 10-page job description and participate in a second phone interview. All hired CITs partake in the same 4½ day training that the Junior Counselors and Counselors receive in addition to being certified in CPR and First Aid.
Applications are available at Peak Experiences year-round. Completed applications should be submitted between September 1st and December 15th (preferably). CIT candidates should be 14 years old before the first week they are scheduled to work (for example, some CITs are 13 at staff training, turn 14 in June and begin as a CIT in July). Our staff members are remarkable and our CITs are no exception. This is a real job, with high expectations, on-going training and unending support. Campers who love our Day Camps think that Advance Camp and our Overnight Camps are even better. Joining the Passages Staff as a CIT blows all of it away.
Happiness is a by-product of achievement. We have the most fun!
