Theatre IV’s Honk! Through 5/15/11, and our review

If you’ve never been to Theatre IV with your family before, you’re in for a treat. If you have been, you know what great shows they have! The  next Theatre IV Show is Honk!  running from April 29- May 15, 2011.

I attended this show with two of my kiddos on Saturday, April 30th and we had a ball! This darling rendition of The Ugly Duckling came alive with the sweet “ugly” duck Durron Marquis Tyre, an adorable human duckling who tugged at our heartstrings through his journey of acceptance.  His mom, Ida, played by Maggie Roop, was endearing as well, searching for her little “lost duckling” and having lots of crazy antics along the way.  Two of the characters they encounter–the bullfrog and turkey–played by Derek Phipps, had us cracking up and we couldn’t wait to see what trouble that duckling would fall into next.

Our four-year-old was wiggling a bit by the end–the show was around two hours–but she’s a spitfire like that. Our nine-year-old was totally engaged and thought it was a hoot. I’d recommend it for mature kids who can handle a show this long. Big kids (like me) will love the imaginative costumes, music, and a timeless story that reminds us that acceptance goes far beyond skin deep.
