June 1, 2011 if National Running Day!

It’s National Running Day on June 1, 2011!

Yep, it’s that time of year when we celebrate running. It doesn’t matter if you run by yourself, with a friend, on a track, at the gym, on a treadmill, or anywhere else – just run!

Running is one of the best ways to stay fit and healthy — and it doesn’t cost anything (except a good pair of comfortable running shoes). Maybe this is the day for you to start running, increase your existing running schedule, or invite a friend to run.

No matter what you do – celebrate National Running Day on June 1.

Here are some ideas you can use:

  1. Run today!
  2. Wear running shoes to work and take a run at lunch.
  3. Encourage a friend to run with you (start out walking – that’s just fine!).
  4. Take a new running path or route today – and if you run outdoors, try indoors or visa versa.
  5. Check out your running shoes and see if they need replacing. This is a good day to do it!
  6. Give to an organization that provides running shoes for kids – it is a gift that will mean more than you know.
  7. Take your kids with you for a run.
  8. Reward yourself for being a runner by doing something special just for YOU!

Always drink plenty of water before and after and during your run — replenishing body fluids is essential, especially in this hot weather.

Visit the Running Day website to learn more. And then get ready to run – even if you start out walking, or just run for a short distance, it doesn’t matter. The important thing is to put that first step forward and GO.

Happy running day!
