Sex Ed in Schools: What Richmond Parents are Saying

It was quite a surprise today to be asked by CBS Channel 6 in Richmond to share my views with Greg McQuade on sex ed in schools. To be viewed on television today. No pressure!

After reading a recent report in the Washington post from a recently published National Sexuality Education Standards report that spurred the story, I was able to gather a few cohesive thoughts on this incredibly-stacked topic. The resulting television newscast is shown here with a brief interview led to these clips and the resulting comments from locals.

My online conversations on our Richmondmom.com  Facebook page and on Twitter have been fascinating. Parents responded with verything from thinking starting sex ed in second grade was too late to saying that public schools have the right to teach what they want: if parents don’t like it, don’t send your kid to public schools. From “I wish schools would be more proactive with educating parents on benefits of sex ed” to “people think if kids know about sex, they won’t do it.”

What do you think?
