Rare Life Courage Award Goes to Rachel Reynolds: She Rocks

CJ's Thumbs Up Ball 2012

We already know about the great work Rachel Reynolds does through CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation. Now, she has been recognized for her outstanding work and commitment to this important cause for children.

Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey has named Rachel as the winner of the 2012 Rare Life Courage Award.  Eagle Rare will donate $2,000 to Reynolds’ charity of choice, CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation, in her honor.

In 2009, Rachel and her husband learned that their then three-year-old daughter, Charlotte Jennie, had a large brain tumor.  The family endured four surgeries, several rounds of chemotherapy, experimental radiation treatments and countless hospitalizations, but Charlotte’s young life ended in 2010 when she was just just 4 ½ years old. Through their loss and grief, Rachel and her husband were able to turn tragedy into hope for other people.

Rachel soon began a foundation in her daughter’s name to benefit families with children who have chronic and life threatening illnesses. CJ’s Thumbs Up Foundation provides financial assistance and healthy weekly meals to eligible families, served by the Children’s Hospital of Richmond.  To date, the foundation has distributed $30,000 to families in need thanks to the efforts and leadership of Rachel and her team.

The Rare Life Award is an annual recognition program created to “honor individuals exhibiting courage, leadership, survival, devotion, character and heroism.”  Candidates are nominated by friends, family and colleagues.  Their stories and photos are posted online where visitors vote on these inspirational stories. For more information on the Rare Life Award or Eagle Rare Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, visit their website.

The Thumbs Up Ball was also a huge success again this year thanks to Rachel and Roger Reynolds, raising over $3,000. Visit their Facebook page to see the pictures from the event.

Congratulations to Rachel Reynolds!
