This week’s calendar is full as we prepare for the upcoming Easter weekend.
The governor’s grand Easter egg hunt is this week and don’t miss our Wine Down Wednesday event for the Junior League of Richmond. There are plenty of spring activities in store.
Be sure and stop by Sweet Spot in Short Pump for your Easter treats and stop by Spirited Art for some family fun or schedule a time during April 8 at one of the Spring Break camp sessions. Be sure to check out our Spring Break Calendar for those who will enjoy a break from school during April 8 too. The Carter Mountain Egg-stravaganza is Saturday too – with tons of fun.

Pinwheels for Prevention Garden – In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, 3,000+ pinwheels will be “planted” in the Children’s Garden, each representing a child served this past year by Prevent Child Abuse Virginia’s Healthy Families program.
A Million Blooms kicks off with Orchids Galore! — a spectacular display in the Conservatory at Lewis Ginter through June 3. The celebration continues with millions of blooms throughout the spring season: daffodils, cherry blossoms, tulips, roses and peonies. Highlights include special events such as Easter Weekend,Mother’s Day, the Spring Plant Sale and plant shows and activities in the Children’s Garden.

Easter Egg Hunt at Sandston Library
Tea and Tulips. Enjoy tea and sweets on Agecroft Hall’s terrace overlooking the James River, followed by a one-hour tour of the gardens with a special emphasis on the spectacular tulip display in the formal sunken garden. Annette Tomes and Sandi Barnette, of Agecroft’s Gardening Department,lead this tour.
St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Glen Allen will host faith leaders from area churches to speak for its Lenten Series. On Tuesdays during Lent, the series will offer lunch followed by a talk on this year’s theme, At the Foot of the Cross. All are invited for a time to partake of food for the body and the soul. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. and speakers at 12:15 p.m. The cost is $7 for lunch or participants may bring their own. The series is held at St. Michael’s located at 4491 Springfield Road in Glen Allen. Club Mom. 9am-11am. Chesterfield Towne Center. Club Mom occurs the first Tuesday of every month in our Food Court from 9-11 a.m. and features great entertainment, fun giveaways for the adults, and free breakfast for children 12 years or younger. (Breakfast tickets are given out until 10:30 a.m. and are valid until 10:45 a.m. on Club Mom event days.). This month – Barefoot Puppets – free.
Garden Explorations for Families: Habitats. 2pm-3pm. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens. Explore a pond, forest, and meadow as we search for our furry, scaly, and feathered friends!

King’sDominion Opening Day of the season.
Best-selling author David L. Robbins has adapted his suspense-filled, compassionate thriller, Scorched Earth, for the stage. A rural Virginia community is torn apart when the tiny body of a stillborn, mixed-race baby is exhumed from the graveyard, and the neighboring church is burned to the ground. Join us as Robbins discusses his creative process and the upcoming world premiere on April 13 at the Barksdale at Theatre. Nano Days at Science Museum of Virginia. Saturday, April 7, 11 am-4 pm. Junior Solar Workshop – Saturday, April 7, 1-3 pm Gather up to four of your friends to discover how to use the sun to power a model car. Confederate History and Heritage Day. Noon-3pm. Free fun at 1917 Courthouse, 10011 Iron Bridge Road. Join the Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia as it commemorates the sacrifices of Confederate veterans during the American Civil War. Activities to include living-history demonstrations, period music, exhibitors and a wreath-laying ceremony at the Confederate monument.

FREE Arena Racing USA. 7pm. Richmond Coliseum. Arena Racing USA – drivers racing real half-scale stock cars on a 1/10 mile steel and aluminum track that fits inside a hockey rink. This is the way racing ought to be – so up close and personal you feel like you’re part of the race (without the fumes and noise level)! Doors open an hour early for the FREE pre-race fan festival – meet the drivers, take pictures, get autographs and check out the cars up close. Who knows…you just might meet the next Denny Hamlin!
Carter Mountain 2nd Annual Easter Egg-stravaganza is Saturday, April 7th with tons of fun. We don’t officially open til the weekend after Easter, but we can’t resist inviting you up for a day of fun THIS COMING SATURDAY! The Easter Bunny will be here all day to visit, have photos taken, and help you during one of our Easter Egg Hunts! We’ll be open on Saturday, April 7th from 10AM-5PM. Come for an egg hunt at 11AM, 1PM, or 3PM (ages 10 and under can participate – others can cheer them on!). Everyone who participates takes home candy, and there will be some special prizes too!

Easter on Parade on Monument Avenue on April 8. Each year more than 25,000 people converge upon the four-block site to celebrate the arrival of spring and the beauty of Monument Avenue, taking this once-a-year opportunity to stroll in the streets. Music, arts, crafts, children’s activities, food, balloon artistry, a petting zoo, and of course, people and pet watching are all part of the celebration. This is a parade of all Richmonders to come out and participate!
